stepping away from reality

Riding home from Harbour Centre today, I got a seat on the SkyTrain next to the window and called up my Monorail Audio mp3 from the Monorail at Walt Disney World and played it while riding home. I guess that’s my little attempt at escapism for the day, pretending that the SkyTrain is infact the Walt Disney World Express Monorail. Despite the fact that ScienceWorld looks like a clone of Spaceship Earth, and the Plaza of Nations could pass for the Imagination Pavilion, I had to stretch my imagination a little to believe that False Creek could pass off as the Seven Seas Lagoon and the SkyTrain for a Monorail. But even for a moment it’s nice to believe that Broadway Station is in fact the Monorail station that would lead me to Main Street, USA and to the wonders and joy of the Magic Kingdom. That rainy and damp Vancouver would become sunny and warm Orlando. That I would in fact cross under the Main Street, USA Train Station and there infront of me Cinderella’s Castle would appear, bringing all my childhood memories rushing back to me all at once. And then I would skip up the stairs of the trainstation to get the breathtaking look down Mainstreet, before the Train would pull up and I would be wisked away to Frontierland and a great day.

Then my 6 minutes of daydreaming were up as the mp3 changed and Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” brought me back to reality: really tired, riding home on the smelly SkyTrain, my upcoming assignments, having to work this weekend and all those other joys that consist of my life.

Oh well, it was nice to be 1000km away, even if it was for 6 minutes.

….. yes I’m silly 😉
