It’s amazing, this time of year is supposed to be one where we give goodwill towards each other. We’re supposed to be super kind and friendly to everyone. How it amazes me that that entire concept has gone out the door. People are really rude. I realize that yes, this season is stressful, but does that mean a person needs to take it out on everyone they come in contact with? I dunno, it really ticks me off when people are unnecessarily rude and unpleasant to me, and there was a lot of that this weekend. And not the usual lack of pleases and thankyous, this was bitchy ranting about silly little things. One lady even whipped out the “Well I know your store manager” ploy. Three times. As much as people try to intimidate me because they’re grouchy, not gonna work. I just smiled, and apologized again.

Perhaps yes, I’m coming off grouchy myself at the time, but it’s unavoidable when people say some not so nice things about when, when all you’re doing is trying to do is still be nice to them and help them out. I don’t hold any of that grouchyness against anyone, but it would be nice if people could be nice in return. So please, to everyone out there who is doing their christmas shopping this time of year: Please don’t take your stress out on store employees! We’re trying to help you, not make your life hell as you seem to make out. Taking your stress out on us may be a stress relief for you, but when you have to deal with hundreds of people taking their stress out on you, can you imagine how stressed we get? And yet we still keep our calm. Even a sincere thank you, would make a world of difference.

Went to the cottage yesterday, was good πŸ™‚ Actually got to see what Point Roberts looks like. It’s funny, there’s a street that goes right along the Canada-US border. On the Canada side, there are these really expensive condos (Tswassen is a really expensive place to live!) and the on US side, was all these cottages that are worth about 1/3 of the price! It’s really interesting to see how the roads on the Point Roberts side at one point must have gone into Canada at one point, but now there are fences across. Oh well, it’s fun to have a cabin in the US, despite my confusion with mph πŸ˜› But still, when 80% of the land is owned by Canadians, it seems a little silly to call it American.

Now I’m just rambling. My coherence hasn’t returned yet.

Well that was a bundle of panic! I had a take home exam and a 12 page paper due at noon today. While I had the exam done, the paper just didn’t want to be written, and at 11 am this morning I still had 600 words! I don’t know how I managed to make the word count of 3k, but I did (thank goodness). Of course, that left me with an unedited T_T paper and me dashing out the door at 1120 trying to make it to campus on time. Panic panic panic! Luckily I made it with 5 minutes to spare, but still. Didn’t need that added stress right now!

I have another exam (in class) today at 330, so I have 3 1/2 hours to kill now.

So need to de-stress right now, thus why i’m on here for a little bit instead of studying. While i’m here I’ll pay the library fine, but I guess I’ll come back on monday to buy my books and pick up my CODE materials.

    blllurrrggg…stress stress stress o_o

I’m feeling a bit restless today. Probably because I’ve been sitting most of the day studying. I’ve got one exam tomorrow, then another on friday along with a take home exam and a term paper due that day. Will be sitting again tomorrow. Then an exam next week. Will be glad when it’s all done.

Yes! That’s what I was interviewing for! The reason why i didn’t give any specifics is because I would be so heart broken if I didn’t get it. BUT I DID! I’ll be working in WALT DISNEY WORLD this summer!! XD

One of the most spectacular things I ever get to see, are the lights below when on a nighttime flight and landing. It’s so amazing and beautiful.

On the last trip I took, to Winnipeg in July, I was lucky enough to have a window seat on the nighttime flight and got a breathtaking reward. I figured I would share it all with you.

    I would have embeded it… but I still can’t figure out why it won’t work….. πŸ™

I think that my Info Tech: The New Media (CMNS 253) course just picked up a bit. At least, if it keeps going like today’s lecture did. Now that we’ve done the midterm (lastweek), the focus of the class has changed from the history/future/really techno-centric focus of the course, to more of the sociological affects caused by said technologies, and how they’re becoming ingrained in our society; how socialization is taking place in these new forms of technology instead of what we would ‘typically’ consider to be avenues of social communication. It’s quite interesting. This is the part of my major I enjoy, and is perhaps why I’ve been heavily considering as of late of declairing a sociology minor. I’ve been so deprived of sociology this semestre because I couldn’t get into any classes :'(

At any rate, it’s really interesting, which is good, because this class would put me to sleep in the first half of the semester. Bad thing to do, I know.

The other day (monday, I think) Amy and I met up on campus and found the 2006/2007 course guide, which is this really thick manual that tells you what courses you need for such and such majors, how you go about course planning, and descriptions of all the classes. Course planning is coming up quite quickly (November 16th – 830AM), so I’m getting slightly antsey and impatient, waiting for the Course Newspaper (a guide that tells you what courses are being offered next semestre) to come in the mail so I can start planning. I didn’t get all the courses that I wanted, many of them lower division requirements still! :O That had me quite infuriated, because here I am a third year and still can’t get the courses I want! Next semestre, however, 3rd years have the 2nd best registration dates, so hopefully it will go better πŸ™‚

But still wanting my course newspaper πŸ˜›

One course I’d really like to take is Tourism and Social Policy. Unfortunately it’s a distance education course, and I’m not terribly keen on those. But it sounds like it would be a very interesting course, and would contribute to my (future) sociology minor, and some communications major credits I still need to accumulate (need at least 1 upper division sociology course).

I also need to take either a qualitative research methods course, or a documentary research methods course (I already have my quantitative research methods done). However, I covered most of that in the Sociological Research Methods that I did in Spring ’06. Oh well, it will be good practice on things I hate.

….I just remembered that I can search next semester’s course listing on goSFU. (yeah, I’m dumb πŸ˜› I’m in university… how?)

  • stepping away from reality

(Originally posted to my Livejournal, Creamsodaangel)

Riding home from Harbour Centre today, I got a seat on the SkyTrain next to the window and called up my Monorail Audio mp3 from the Monorail at Walt Disney World and played it while riding home. I guess that’s my little attempt at escapism for the day, pretending that the SkyTrain is infact the Walt Disney World Express Monorail. Despite the fact that ScienceWorld looks like a clone of Spaceship Earth, and the Plaza of Nations could pass for the Imagination Pavilion, I had to stretch my imagination a little to believe that False Creek could pass off as the Seven Seas Lagoon and the SkyTrain for a Monorail. But even for a moment it’s nice to believe that Broadway Station is in fact the Monorail station that would lead me to Main Street, USA and to the wonders and joy of the Magic Kingdom. That rainy and damp Vancouver would become sunny and warm Orlando. That I would in fact cross under the Main Street, USA Train Station and there infront of me Cinderella’s Castle would appear, bringing all my childhood memories rushing back to me all at once. And then I would skip up the stairs of the trainstation to get the breathtaking look down Mainstreet, before the Train would pull up and I would be wisked away to Frontierland and a great day.

Then my 6 minutes of daydreaming were up as the mp3 changed and Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” brought me back to reality: really tired, riding home on the smelly SkyTrain, my upcoming assignments, having to work this weekend and all those other joys that consist of my life.

Oh well, it was nice to be 1000km away, even if it was for 6 minutes.

    ….. yes I’m silly πŸ˜‰

  • The pleasures of fall.

(Originally posted to my Livejournal, Creamsodaangel).

You know, despite the things I hate about fall (the temperature, having to go back to classes, etc), it really is a nice time of year. I mean, just take a look out the window and there’s all these gorgeous colours. Reds, yellows, oranges, golds, all mixed in with the usual shades of greens: it’s absolutely breathtaking. Not only that, but before the weather turned and we had our real fall weather set it (clouds & rain), we had some spectacular sun sets. We also get some really nice holidays, Thanksgiving and Hallowe’en in October, and Remembrance Day in November. Two of these being holidays that lets us reflect and give thanks for all that we have, and all that people have sacrificed for us so that we may be free. And the other is just plain fun! (not that I dress up anymore, but it’s cute to see all the kiddies come to the door in their costumes!). Fall is a pretty good time of year.

That reminds me… I need to rake the leaves today.. hee hee.

And yes, I am totally the person who rakes the leaves, and then jumps in them. Great behaviour for a twenty year old, eh? πŸ˜‰
